Why Your Headshot Matters More Than You Think

I know. It's "just a headshot." Except it's not.

Your headshot is the first thing people see when they look you up. Before they read your bio, before they check your resume, before they visit your website, they see your face. And in about two seconds they've already decided whether you look trustworthy, professional, approachable, creative, or like someone they want to work with.

That's not me being dramatic. That's just how people work. First impressions are visual. And if your visual first impression is a blurry photo from your cousin's graduation dinner, you're starting behind.

Whether you're an entrepreneur trying to land clients, an actor building your portfolio, a corporate professional who needs to look polished, or someone who just got promoted and needs to update everything, your headshot is doing work for you 24/7. It better be good.

That's not what we do here.

My headshot sessions are built around making you look like the most confident, authentic version of yourself. We play with lighting, we swap backgrounds, we try different angles, and we make sure your personality actually comes through in the photos. You're not just a face on a gray backdrop. You're a person with a brand, a vibe, and a story, and your headshot should reflect that.

Some of my clients want clean and polished. Some want moody and creative. Some want lifestyle shots that show them actually working in their element. Whatever direction you're going, we'll figure it out together and make it happen.

What I Offer

I have a few different options depending on what you need. Because the person who needs one quick LinkedIn photo and the person who needs a full set of branding images are two very different people with very different needs.

Mini Headshot Session: $150

15 minutes. 3 professionally edited images. This is the "I just need a solid headshot and I don't want to overthink it" option. Quick, easy, and you walk out with exactly what you need. Available Monday through Friday, 11am to 5pm.

Perfect for: You need a LinkedIn photo. You just started a new job. You need something for your email signature. You don't need a whole session, you just need a great photo.

Standard Headshot Session: $350

90 minutes. Full gallery of professionally edited images. Multiple outfit changes (bring up to 4!). Free use of studio wardrobe. This is the full experience. We take our time, try different looks, different backdrops, different lighting setups, and you leave with a gallery full of options.

Perfect for: Entrepreneurs who need photos for their website. Actors and models building their portfolio. Professionals who want variety. Anyone who wants more than just one look.

Branding Headshot Session: $550

Up to 3 hours. Studio or on location or both. Full gallery of professionally edited images. This is for the person who needs a complete set of brand images. Not just a headshot, but photos of you in your workspace, using your products, working with clients, being the face of your brand. We build the whole session around your business and what you need to show up online.

Perfect for: Entrepreneurs and business owners who need content for their website, social media, marketing materials, and more. People rebranding or launching something new.

The Headshot Party

Okay this one is my favorite because it's genuinely so fun.

Get your friends, your team, your coworkers, your business besties together and do a headshot party. Everyone gets their own individual headshot session, but you all show up together, bring food and drinks, hype each other up, and make it a whole event.

$200 per person with a minimum of 4 people. Everyone gets their full gallery of professionally edited images.

This is PERFECT for small teams, office groups, friend groups who all run businesses, real estate teams, or honestly just a group of people who all know they need new headshots and keep putting it off. Make it fun. Make it social. Make it an excuse to drink wine and gas each other up while you all get incredible photos.

If you're the one organizing it, you're everyone's hero.

What Makes a Good Headshot?

Since I've been doing this for over 10 years, let me give you the quick cheat sheet of what makes a headshot actually work:

It looks like you. Not you from five years ago. Not you with so much retouching that your own mother wouldn't recognize you. It looks like the person who shows up to the meeting, the audition, the coffee date.

Your personality comes through. A headshot where you look like a mannequin does nothing for you. I want the person looking at your photo to feel like they already know a little bit about who you are.

The lighting is intentional. Good lighting is the difference between "she looks tired" and "oh wow." That's my job and I take it very seriously.

It's current. If you've changed your hair, gained or lost weight, aged (we all do it), or just look different than your current headshot, it's time for a new one. Most professionals should update their headshot every 1-2 years.

It fits the context. A headshot for LinkedIn looks different than a headshot for an acting portfolio which looks different than a headshot for your personal brand website. We'll make sure yours matches where you're going to use it.

What to Expect at Your Session

Before your session we'll chat about what you need, where you're going to use the photos, and what vibe you're going for. I'll help you figure out what to wear and what to bring.

Bring up to 4 outfits for your standard and branding sessions. We'll split the time between different looks so you have variety. Layers are great because you can go from blazer-on to blazer-off for two totally different looks in 10 seconds.

I have studio wardrobe available. A lot of it is on the fancier side, but if something works for your look, it's yours to use at no extra charge.

I direct you the whole time. You don't need to know your "good side" or practice smiling in the mirror. I'll guide you through every pose, every angle, every expression. By the middle of the session you'll be totally relaxed and that's when the best shots happen.

Your gallery is ready in about 2 weeks. And I promise you're going to want to update everything immediately because your old headshot is going to look tragic next to these.

Hair and makeup can be added for $150. I handle the booking for you. It makes a big difference, especially if you want to look extra polished.

Studio or On Location. Your Call.

My studio in Cincinnati is set up with multiple backdrop options and lighting setups. We can do clean and classic, moody and dramatic, bright and modern, or whatever matches your brand. Most headshot sessions happen here.

But if you want something more lifestyle oriented, we can absolutely go on location. Your office, your storefront, a coffee shop, a cool Cincinnati spot, wherever makes sense for your brand. The branding session is specifically designed for this. We'll plan locations together and create a shot list so we make the most of our time.
