What a Women's Empowerment Session Actually Is (And Why I Built One That Isn't Boudoir)

Listen, I've been told my entire career that boudoir is the one shoot that's supposed to make you feel empowered. It's been the language a lot of photographers have used to get women to book a boudoir session.

And honestly? It's not not true.

But here's the thing.

Some women do not really feel empowered that way. Some of us gals do not feel our best sitting in front of a camera half naked. For those that do, amazing. Let's crush it.

For those who don't, I've got another option for you.

A Celebrate HER session. A session I built for all of us ladies. A session where you can do whatever the hell builds up your confidence. Something that lets you feel like YOU and see yourself being a total badass.

Why I Built Something That Wasn't Boudoir

The photography industry has been telling women for a long long time that the only way to feel sexy or empowered through photos is to take their clothes off.

Look. I'm not anti boudoir. I love boudoir. I think the photographers who do it well are doing real work. If lingerie photos in front of a camera make you feel like a goddess, GO. Book it. Do it.

But somewhere along the way the industry made it seem like that was the ONLY way. Like if you wanted to feel hot and powerful in photos, you had to be in something see through or you didn't really want it bad enough.

That always sat weird with me.

Empowerment doesn't have a uniform. It has a feeling. And different women find that feeling in totally different ways. Some find in gorgeous bra and panties sets. Some find it in a milk bath. Some find it in leather jacket on a rooftop. Some find it laying in dirt in the woods.

There's no one way. There never was. No one is boxed in here. Ever.

What a Celebrate HER Session Looks Like

A Celebrate HER session is built around YOU. Not a template. Not what worked for the last girl. Not whatever Pinterest told you a women's photoshoot is supposed to be.

I've photographed women in milk baths surrounded by flowers because they wanted to feel like a goddess. I've shot women in smoke and red light because they wanted to look like they could destroy a city with a blink of an eye. I’ve had ladies swim in a lake in wings because that’s the kind of whimsy they needed to feel powerful!

I've shot women in their own clothes, in their own makeup, in their own skin, having their own real conversation with me while I took their photo. And that was the session.

There's no wrong way to do this.

Who Books This

Celebrate HER is for the women who are tired- Tired of a lot of BS.

Tired of being told they're too much. Tired of being told they're not enough. Tired of being told to calm down, smile more, smile less, take up less space, be more grateful, act their age. Tired of being told they shouldn’t wear that outfit. Tired of being told they are too…. anything.

It's for the recently divorced reinventor who needs photos that prove she's still in there.

It's for the mom who hasn't been photographed in five years and forgot what hot felt like.

It's for the 55 year old who's just getting started.

It's for the woman in the middle of a turning point and wants to mark it on purpose.

It's for the woman who's been googling “self love photoshoot Cincinnati” at midnight and hasn't pulled the trigger yet.

It's for the girl who has never felt seen in a photo and wants a photographer who's actually going to see her.

Honestly I could keep going with that list but, if any of that sounds like you, you're in the right place.

What Makes It Different

After 10+ years photographing women in Cincinnati, I can tell you the sessions that actually change something in someone aren't the ones that follow a template. A Celebrate HER session isn't a portrait session. It's not just me showing up and taking photos.

When you book, we talk first. Not about poses. About what era you're in. What you want to feel. What you've been carrying. What you want to remember about this version of yourself.

Then we build the session around that.

The day of, you walk into my studio at 2701 Spring Grove Ave in Cincinnati. You hear the playlist I made for you specifically. You see the wall of posters that has become the soul of this place. You get your favorite snacks. You sit in the chair. We talk like friends. - and we probably dance a little too.

Then I photograph you. Not the version of you that's been performing for everyone else. The actual one underneath.

You leave with a gallery full of amazing images and probably a slightly different sense of who you are.

Boudoir or Celebrate HER. Which One?

Honestly? Trust your gut.

If you've been low key wanting to do boudoir for years and just haven't pulled the trigger, that's good sign to do something. Do it. Book it. Book boudoir.

If the idea of being half naked in front of a camera makes you want to crawl out of your skin, that's also information. Book Celebrate HER.

If you want to feel powerful and seen but specifically through your own personality and style rather than your body, Celebrate HER.

If you want creative freedom to make the session look like whatever vibe YOU are, Celebrate HER.

If you genuinely don't know, send me a message. We'll figure it out together.
