Floral frame. My new favorite photoset!
I recently decided to give myself a little challenge.
I wanted to see if I could take an idea I was trying to do a long time ago (but failed) and give it another go.
My inspo image
My first attempt
I’m fairly certain the inspo image is for a perfume or something along those lines. I just really loved the floral aspects of it and how it was put together. I tried to do make my own version of it about 3 years ago. And as you can see, it… wasn’t good.
At the time I liked it but now as I’ve grown as an artist and creative I can really pinpoint where I went wrong.
1- Lighting was off. I didn’t know what to do with it back then and it was pretty new to me
2- The floral coloring isn’t what I should have used.
3- I need more flowers. Just all over in different spots.
4- You can’t see it but I have her sitting on the back of a chair. I didn’t really take into consideration the comfort of sitting in the set. I just went with what I had and that was a chair.
So with all of that in mind, I set off to do my little challenge. The goal was to try and get it as close to the original as possible and rework all the things I didn’t like about my first take. I gave myself 1 afternoon to get it done. Put the set together, and phtograph it.
So first step was paint the frame gold. The frame at this point had been stashed in my storage and used for other things. Painted over a couple times by now. So getting that done was key. Once that was ready, I pulled my black background down and started trying to get the frame and flowers all together. I ended up using insulation board that I painted black to keep the flowers in place and angled them as best I could around a stool where my model would be sitting.
I think this go went much better. And once my model was there and I could arrange the flowers to be in good places around her, we were golden. It ended up being a super fun little challenge with, in my opinion, some really good images!
So what do you think? Did I do it better?
I think so. And If I’m being honest, I think I like it better than the original. Probably because I LOVE dark and moody!
I’ll be holding a special mini with this soon. If you’d like to join in, sign up for my email list! I’ll be sending it out there first!
