Have you ever wanted to meet a unicorn? I can take you to one!

Honest.

No lying here. I can and will take you to meet a unicorn. No matter how old you are it’s something you should 100% have on your life list and I can help you check it off!

You see, I know of a very magical place that is home to one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL unicorns I ever did see- and I’ve seen a couple in my day.

This one has bright blue eyes and is one of the most gentle creatures I’ve ever met. However if you’re a fairy, I suggest you try to hide your wings as he likes to eat those as snacks.

But seriously, it’s an incredible time.

I'm turning 30! MY EPIC 30's Cake Smash Session in Cincinnati Ohio

It’s happening!

This week I said goodbye to my 20’s and HELLLOOOOOOOOO to my 30’s.

I know a lot of people struggle with this switch but I’m actually kind of excited. Mostly because I know it’s going to be pretty damn awesome.

Personally, I think that my 20’s were really tough. Especially in my early 20’s with all sorts of poor life choices. However, I loved years 25-29. Those were full of amazing things and stuff I never ever want to forget.

Really 30 is going to kick some major ass and I’m actually really thankful for those rough 20’s years. They set me up for an excellent life… even if they really were difficult then.

To bring on my new set of double digits I’m doing a good ol’ classic cake smash session! However, not just any cake smash session… a 30’s themed one!!

I got a 30’s era dress, some AMAZING powder blue shoes and I made a headdress to match.

The headdress is made with feathers, headbands from Michaels. It was a fairly simple thing to make and I think it came out super lovely. You may even catch me wearing it on the normal because… why not.

Peep the creation of my headdress below

If you recall back when I first started my blog back when I just turned 27, I did a “cake smash”. It wasn’t really a cake smash though, more like me just smashing my face in a cake to see what would happen- creative experiments haha. This time I went all in and channeled my inner cake eater. I also took some tips from my old blog post “How to smash cake like a boss” and just went at it!

2018 Has been a CRAZY year... Here's why

Looking back at 2018 has me like whoa!

Quite literally like this:

Say-Yes-to-Jess-2018-year-recap.jpg

Yes. My year was that exciting and I didn’t really expect 85% of it to happen. However I’m INCREDIBLY grateful that it did.

So what was it that made my year freakishly good? Let me make you a little list. ( Because I love lists!)

5. I started doing portraits of places in the city and random ideas in my head.

Why does this make my year so good? Because it let me have another way to create things without needing a person or just running off some random idea I had in the moment. I used to have ideas of something that I thought would look good as a photo but I just let them sit there and collect dust. That time is gone!

*ps, you can get your own copy of my prints by going here

4. I got out there in the public and met tons of new people!

If you recall this year I made it a goal to attend craft shows/markets. I was going to slowly dip my toe back into the vendor life and see if it was a good fit for me and what I do. What did I find out? It was- well mostly. It is kind of weird showing up to a vendor fair not really selling anything but trying to tell you who I am and hope you remember me.

Even though it was a little weird, it was worth it and I’ll not trade those long (really sometimes rainy-tent blowing learning experience) days for anything.

3. I dug way deep into education
Yes, that is right. REAL DEEP! I took lots of time to learn new photoshop tricks and ways to edit things to make them look even better than they would have. I spent money on classes without thinking twice, knowing it was for a good reason and would better my future.

It is funny to me to look at photos that I did in the beginning of the year to now. Growth is real my friends.

2. I started doing self portraits two times a week
That seams like a lot, right? Well, you’re correct. It sure is. Some days I didn’t want to and it took EVERYTHING I had to make those photos happen but I did it- give or take a couple of days. It has not only let me try out ideas and newly learned skills but show what I can do with very little. It’s become a personal challenge to see what I can and can’t edit.

**Peep my end of year video below

1. I took a big chance- and WON!

Back in the early months of 2018 I entered a contest that Olay and Artworks put out. They wanted a woman artist to show them what their version of “Light as air” was. For some reason I just had an overwhelming feeling that I needed to do something with a girl floating in a bubble. I kept the idea in my head for a while and turned it in right before the deadline approached. A couple months later I got an email that I and 4 other awesome ladies were selected as finalists for the competition.

We were all ecstatic! From an amazing dinner with the (super fierce) women putting the contest together, having my work displayed downtown in 3 different places and oh yeah… having a spot in Oprahs Magazine really just set this year over the top.

A little after this I was also in Cincinnati Family Magazine- Cherry on top of my ice cream.

So basically, 2018 you were amazing. Literally.

2019 you have a lot to live up to along with a whole new number added to my age (Hello 30’s, goodbye 20’s- it’s been real)

So here is to 2019 and TONS of new adventures and amazing opportunities to come. <3

Let me know in the comments what made your year extra awesome! :)
