Under the sea! My most recent underwater mermaid photoshoot!

If you’re new around here, I need you to know, I LOVE swimming and doing underwater shoots. There is something so fun but yet really challenging about it.

For me, the challenging part comes in many different forms. Specifically me floating around the pool not really knowing where I am in comparison to other people who are just there tp swim haha. (sorry life guards who recently got mad at me for floating too close to the diving boards, I really didn’t know where I was)

It’s super fun though and I’m willing to float around to get whatever shot I need.

Recently, I had one of my favorite clients ask me to do a mermaid under water shoot. When I do these, I tend to do them two different ways. On dry land and under the water. You get two VERY DIFFERENT looks when you do them this way. Underwater is not as forgiving as land is when it comes to getting the shot you want and can be really challenging for the person being photographed. So I find if I have both as options and tons of images to work with while editing what we need, it’s a big win!

My mermaid for this session was getting ready to turn the big 10 years old! She was super excited about her session AND even got gifted a tail early so she could use it for her photos. Since she had never swam around it in before we took some photos of her on the pool edge and then let her swim around as practice. It’s super important to me that you feel comfortable and confident in a mermaid tail. I don’t want anyone panic swimming because they are having issues. Nothing good comes from that haha.

Once she was ready to go, we took to the water and got tons of images. She really knocked it out the park and was such a good swimmer, trying tons of different things to get really fun photos.
