A Cake Smash Alternative You NEED To See!

We have all by now seen and love a good cake smash session for a one year old's birthday photos. It's adorable and such a fun thing to watch as it's happening. I mean babies covered in cake with huge smiles on their faces as they claw their way through it! Win win! Well till you have to clean them up I guess but that is a different story

A while ago an article surfaced about a little girl who used Tacos as alternative to cake for her photos and I absolutely loved it. When things like this pop up online, I always hope that someone will ask me to do a session like it, but you know... with my own personal ideas for it.

Well, i got my wish on this one!

A friend contacted me to start planning out her daughters 1 year photos for a classic session with a twist.  She had seen one of the very first Taco smashes that came to lite online early this year and wanted to do one for daughter too along with some more traditional styled images. I of course was on board and we began to plan out the look of the set.

We opted for not a lot of distractions when it came to decoration for the first backdrop we kept it simple to match the colors of the clothing and some banners in the back  for added flair. For the Taco Smash we decided to go with a Fiesta banner and a sombrero Pinata that way we could keep the focus more so on Bri, her daughter.

When doing Classic Sessions like this I don't like to photograph EVERYTHING on one backdrop or in the same location even so we opted to photograph 2 outfits inside and the 3rd we would take a quick drive over to the park. If you know me, you know I'm more of an outside natural light photographer anyway, so I'm always happy to take a trip to the park.

When the day came the weather was perfect and Bri was such a good little model.

And lastly, the TACO SMASH!

Unlike a cake smash it was not as messy and the cleanup for something like this was quite a bit easier. Also, oddly enough she was very clean about it and was picking up the little pieces and eating them first until we showed her i was ok to make a mess with it. All in all it was such a fun session and I can't wait to do another one like it.

Hooray for tacos!

Have you ever done a cake smash? Would you have rather done a Taco smash or something else along those lines? Let me know what you think in the comments below!

If you're interested in booking your own Smash send me a message or visit me on the Book A Session Tab.

The BEST Thing To Do When It Snows

I cant get enough snowy days. I feel literally ALIVE when it snows like a weird thing in me has woken up and I'm full of energy. I think it's partly because its so beautiful and I also just really like winter time- and trust me, I know that opinion is not shared with a lot of you.

Regardless of your feelings about snow I think we can all agree that it looks DAMN good in photos. Even more so when you have an exceptionally gorgeous lady to put in the photos with it.

If you didn't already know, I've been WAITNG FOR DAYS to get a decent snow storm to photograph in. When I saw that it was finally snowing I called up my model and headed to the park to create magic- Dream session magic to be more specific.

The plan behind this session was to create a story about a girl, who later became dubbed a woodland nymph, was walking along the woods on her way home and found a key in a hollowed out tree. She then wonders what the key is doing in the tree picks it up and the key leads her to another tree where it opens a door to an unknown world. (I may actually write a story to go with this...)

It was such a fun photo story to photograph and since shooting it I've been in love with the images and how they turned out. I'm loving the idea of telling an actual story with images, something that you can print in a book and keep, share with your children... even put your children it it. The possibilities of what you can do with a photo story are endless.

I also at the end of the session, I saw a great opportunity to take a great levitation shot. It had nothing to do with the story we set out to photograph but it was still cool and I couldn't let it go to waste.

I also made a fun time lapse work in progress video of the creation of it. You can also find this video in the Behind The Scenes tab on my website, along with other rad videos to check out.

What I'm super curious about is how do you take this image? What do you think is going on? I know what I planned it to be but I want to know what you think first before I tell you.  Share in the comments below your thoughts, I'd love to read them!

A Big Field, Stars and a Whole Lot of Imagination

Meet Charlie and Jonathan. Two sweet dapper gentleman from cincinnati that I got to hang out with for the afternoon while we set up and photographed the "Stars in the sky" session.

I think I may have drove around for at least 35 minutes trying to find the spot I was looking for and never actually made it there. Sometimes you just have to make an executive decision and just park your car.   so we set up at a little field - I mean big - really really big field- inside East Fork State Park.

When we were setting up we realized the field itself was full of fossils from the water that used to be there and the boys absolutely loved it! I think they spent more time fossil hunting than actually taking photos. Charlie found some super cool ones though and I dubbed him the Fossil Whisperer.

The session itself was actually a super short and sweet deal. The boys were perfect at posing and doing what I asked. There is a really short Facebook live video on my page that captures the first couple shots but my phone was about to die so I had to take what I could get.

If you remember from my last post this session was all about the imagination of two little boys who wanted to put the stars in the sky. I've been planning this session for quite some time now and I'm so excited that it finally became a reality.

I'm so happy with how these turned out. There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing a compleatly finished set of image that can tell a story.

Just for funsies, here is a before and after of what it looked like when I shot it to the final image above.

Stay tuned for more upcoming projects! I hope to have some crazy cool milk bath sessions coming up and I can't wait to share them with you all!
