Artistic Portraits

5 unique ways to display photos in your home.

So you went out, had your daughters photos taken for her 5th birthday. You spent tons of money for the outfit, shoes and the photographer to take the images.  You finally made it in to pick up your prints and you're so excited that they are ready.

3 weeks go by, your prints are still sitting in the same spot they were when you came home and sat them down.

Ever been there?  I have, and I don't even have any children.  Life is busy and complicated it takes time to plan out the way we want to display the things we love  in our homes.  Not to mention that some of us just have a simple fear of putting something on a wall.  * you know who you are*

It's a big decision, I get it.

As a former Interior Designer I know that a person has a zillion ideas of what they want to do and not so much on the actual execution when it comes to designing of those ideas. This is why it's important to start out with a game plan.

Finding the perfect design that speaks to you is always step 1.

Do you like a modern look? Maybe something that is more modern? Perhaps a hodgepodge of things. An eclectic style?   Everyone is different, and that is how it should be.

To take some of the stress away from designing a gallery wall I hit up Pinterest (Perfect afternoon if you ask me) and found some amazing options for different styles of gallery walls just for you. I also made a board for it that you can follow and use to help inspire and make your own Gallery walls.

To save you time though, I pulled my top 10 favorites that you can totally copy and put in your own home.

1.  Rebecca Minkoff's Mid Century Modern Apartment Gallery wall Is absolutely STUNNING!!!

I love the idea of using shelving to host frames vs attaching them to the wall sometimes. It allows more versatility and you're able to change out your frames with no worries of messing up your wall or having to re do the whole thing. This is definitely favorite.

2.  Black on white  by Interior Junkie

For a girl who absolutely LOVES color I sure am attracted to black walls with pops of white.  I also am a big fan of adding in little pieces that are not photos. Like that little drawing figure.

3.  Matted images vs Frames

No one said you had to FRAME your images. I love this idea because it brings a unique spin on a traditional wall and if you know me. I like anything that is unique and non traditional.

4. White on White by Urban Nesting

As much as I love and am attracted to black walls, I'm also IN LOVE with white walls with pops of color. Something about the clean bright look just makes my heart sing.  If you've ever been in my studio, you'll notice this is a common theme.

5.  Big Statement pieces

I am a huge fan of BIG over the top statement pieces.  They draw attention and  are fun to look at. If you have kind of a dull space that needs a little life these are the perfect way to do it.

There are literally so many ideas out there and the key is finding what really speaks to you.  Do you already have unique way of displaying your photos? I'd love to see. Post them to Instagram and tag me in your photo or comment below.

A Big Field, Stars and a Whole Lot of Imagination

Meet Charlie and Jonathan. Two sweet dapper gentleman from cincinnati that I got to hang out with for the afternoon while we set up and photographed the "Stars in the sky" session.

I think I may have drove around for at least 35 minutes trying to find the spot I was looking for and never actually made it there. Sometimes you just have to make an executive decision and just park your car.   so we set up at a little field - I mean big - really really big field- inside East Fork State Park.

When we were setting up we realized the field itself was full of fossils from the water that used to be there and the boys absolutely loved it! I think they spent more time fossil hunting than actually taking photos. Charlie found some super cool ones though and I dubbed him the Fossil Whisperer.

The session itself was actually a super short and sweet deal. The boys were perfect at posing and doing what I asked. There is a really short Facebook live video on my page that captures the first couple shots but my phone was about to die so I had to take what I could get.

If you remember from my last post this session was all about the imagination of two little boys who wanted to put the stars in the sky. I've been planning this session for quite some time now and I'm so excited that it finally became a reality.

I'm so happy with how these turned out. There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing a compleatly finished set of image that can tell a story.
