It's time I address something I think is super important that I seem to hear all the time from different people both in person and around in online communities. Something that you may have even thought yourself.
What is it exactley?
The phrase " I'm not (insert demeaning word about yourself here) enough to do that type of photoshoot."
I'm here to tell you that you're 100% wrong.
Yes. Wrong. - I know that can be hard for some people to take in... So just take a second.
Ya know what though, I get it. We are all hard on ourselves for some really lame reasons but let's be honest, we all have flaws, things we wish were not there. Stuff we hide, wax, want photoshopped out. The stuff we catch our selves looking at in the mirror before we step in the shower... but lets just take a moment to realize that every single one of use struggles with something like this and it's ok. These things are what make up you. Even if you don't believe me. That person is still beautiful, amazing, gorgeous and ridiculously rad.
I bet and under all that self doubt you have sitting on the surface is a little sassy sex kitten waiting ... no... screaming to be let out!
Boudoir photography is meant to build your confidence up. Show you how beautiful you actually are. Showcase how well you CAN AND DO rock what you got! In fact, you don't even need to have a significant other to "gift" your images to. Gift them to your self. You deserve it!
Do it for you!
A common misconception about Boudoir is that you HAVE to wear sexy lingerie. This is not true. I don't know about you but sometimes jeans and a white t-shirt can be JUST if not more sexy as bra and panties. It's really all about your comfort level and what makes you feel good. Don't want to bare it all. Don't. - it's that simple.
Feeling like you want to give this a go? Make sure to find a photographer you are going to feel comfortable with. There is nothing worse than showing up to your shoot and feeling like you just hired Quagmire from Family Guy to do your session. A little research never hurt anyone!
Trust your photographer. Angles are important and we know that. We don't want you to look bad just as much as you don't want to either.
Posing is huge with boudoir photography. The placement of an arm, the way your hair falls, the arch in your back... we have got you covered. You just sit/lay there and look lovely.
After every session I've ever had, no matter how nervous or scared that person was about showing their body off has told me that they felt awesome after and were amazed that that was actually them in the photograph I showed them at viewing.
So in the words of Christina Aguilera- You are Beautiful! You can do this. You are not to (insert your word here). If this type of photoshoot is something you've been wanting to do just take that leap of faith and do it!
